Incorporated in 1953, the Companions Society has always been the development engine of the community. The Society was created by 10 families that founded the hamlet of St. Isidore. Originally, it had the objective of promoting the well-being of its members, the development of agricultural land, the establishment of farms and the supplying of agricultural equipment.
Since 1967, the Society has undertaken the development of residential lots, a task which it continues today. In 1982, the Society recognized the need for affordable housing within the community, it was the driving force in the creation of the St. Isidore Housing Cooperative, a project which lead to the construction of 20 houses in the hamlet.
At the beginning of the 1990s, another lodging problem presented itself, this time affordable seniors housing. In order to satisfy this need, the Society came up with the "Domaine des Aînés" project. This project saw the construction of 4 independent-living seniors apartments, a number which was increased to 9 in 2007. Currently the Society is studying a third phase of the project, which would add 4 new apartments. During the first 5 years of the project, the complex included a medical clinic which housed a regional doctor. Currently, the clinic has been transformed to host the offices of the St. Isidore Cultural Marketing Project and the coordinator of Family & Community Support Services for the St. Isidore area.
The Companions Society currently consists of 65 members. For more information or to become a member:
